What is a Toddy coffee machine

Cold Brew is cold brew coffee that is made by infusing coarsely ground coffee beans in cold water for a minimum of 12 hours.

How to care for Toddy

To make good coffee, we need to take good care of Toddy . TheCaffetto cleaning powder can do the trick, just pour it into the container, pour hot water over it, leave it for 20 minutes and rinse it off.

With Toddy for the home , maintenance is a whole lot easier. In fact, all its parts can be washed in the dishwasher.

Even though it is dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing all reusable parts for the longest life.

Basic Toddy coffee recipe [recipe on ☕]

Ingredients for Toddy Cold Brew

1. Grind the coffee coarsely.

2. Insert the rubber stopper into the hole in the bottom, wet the Toddy filter and place it in the bottom of the bucket.

3. Insert theopen paper filter into the bucket.

4. Pour about 200 ml of water into the container and add about 50 g of ground coffee. Allow to infuse forapproximately 1 minute.

5. Add the rest of the coffee and cold water, then gently stir the ground coffee into the water using a wooden stirrer so that all the ground coffee is submerged.

6. Roll up the paper filter, close and cover with a lid and leave the coffee toinfuse for 12 - 24 hours.

7. Then just remove the stopper, set the container on a glass carafe and let it drip. This can take up to 1 hour.

TIP: The coffee does not need to be stirred too much. It risks making the coffee cloudy and slightly bitter.

The longer you steep the coffee in water, the more the flavours will come out. The resulting taste of Cold Brew is not bitter at all, but rather floral and fruity. Of course, it always depends on the flavour profile of the coffee.

Preparing Toddy Coffee

Coffee from the Toddy coffee machine can also be the perfect base for delicious summer cocktails. An essential element of a good recipe is your choice of coffee. A coffee selection designed for the filter will work well.

Plum Cold Brew Whiskey

We will need:

  • 30 ml Cold Brew
  • 30 ml whisky
  • 30 ml lemon juice
  • 45 ml plum syrup
  • 1 egg white

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake until the outside of the shaker is really cold. Strain into a glass and serve.

Makeplum syrup by simmering 1½ cups plums with 1½ cups water for 15 minutes. Blend the mixture until very smooth and add back to the pot along with 1 cinnamon stick and a teaspoon of whole cloves. Remove the cinnamon and cloves and add 1 cup of white sugar and stir. Let cool before using in a drink, it will keep for a week in the fridge.

Almond-Honey Cold Brew

We will need:

  • 15 ml of honey
  • 15 ml hot water
  • 240 ml Cold Brew
  • 60 ml almond milk

In a small bowl mix the honey and hot water until smooth. Add the mixture to a glass with ice. Pour the coffee, ice and almond milk into the glass and stir well.

Cold Brew Martini

We will need:

  • 60 ml Cold Brew
  • 15 ml syrup of your choice
  • 50 ml vodka
  • 30 ml coffee liqueur (Kahlúa)
  • 3 coffee beans for garnish

Combine Cold Brew, syrup, vodka and liqueur in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Then strain the drink into a martini glass and garnish with three whole coffee beans.

Midnight Hour Rum Sour

We will need:

  • 60 ml Cold Brew
  • 60 ml dark rum
  • 15 ml brown sugar syrup
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Lemon zest for garnish

Simplymix all ingredients in a glass with ice and add lemon zest for garnish.

Cold brew with cardamom

We will need:

  • 10 g of ground coffee
  • 80 ml cold water
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 50 ml milk
  • 4 ice cubes

Put the ground coffee in a container and pour cold water over it. Open thecardamom pods and take out the seeds. Crush them a little to bring out the flavour and add them to the drink. Leave to infuse in the fridge for 12-24 hours and then strain.

Orange Cold Brew

We will need:

  • 1 l of water
  • 250 g freshly ground coffee
  • 2 sliced oranges

The preparation of the coffee will be the same as we know it from preparation of the classic Cold Brew. In a Toddy mix the coarsely ground coffee and water. In addition, add orange slices for the right flavor and aroma. Allow to infuse for 12-24 hours, then remove the orange slices and serve.

Coconut Cold Brew

We will need:

  • 1 l of water
  • 250 g freshly ground coffee
  • 1 cup unsweetened grated coconut

Start by toasting grated coconut in a pan until the flakes are mostly golden brown. Then prepare everything as you would if you were making a classic Cold Brew, just add extra coconut. Leave to infuse for 12-24 hours, strain and serve with ice and milk.

As well as making a great Cold Brew, the Toddy also does a great job with tea.

Other uses for the coffee machine

Simply replace the coffee in the pot with loose-leaf tea, which you can also supplement with fruit or mint. Leave to infuse for4-6 hours or overnight. And you have a delicious iced tea that will last up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Toddy is a great tool not only for making classic Cold Brew or tea. It can also handle less traditional beverages that will make hot summer days more enjoyable.
