Unconventional coffee or April Fool's joke?
With colours comes spring! Rainbow latte is proof of that!
Colorful milkshakes are one of today's social media hits. There is nothing complicated about making such a drink.
Itis mainlywhipped milk with added coloring from so-called superfoods. Then you just need to add a little creativity and the rainbow latte is in the world. And what are these superfoods?
1. Roses
- Rose powder creates a very light shade of pink. If you prefer a darker pink, add a little beetroot or hibiscus powder.
2. Beetroot
- Beetroot contains lots of colouring agents, so it will reliably colour your whipped milk. When you add heart-shaped latte art to it, you'll please more than just your sweetheart.
3. Batatas
- With this sweet vegetable, you can make rich orange milk drinks. You can also prepare sweet potato powder at home.
Just boil peeled sweet potatoes, blend them into a puree, spread them in a thin layer on baking paper and dry them in a fruit dehydrator or in the oven at 50°C. Then just grind the dried sweet potatoes and you can start making magic.
If you go ahead and make your own colouring powders, please don't grind them in your coffee grinder. And while we're at it, doesn't your coffee grinder need cleaning? To make sure you don't have "April" coffee that tastes like old beans, read up on how to clean your grinder or add barista cleaners to your cart right away!
4. Turmeric
- I'm sure you know about turmeric's dyeing abilities. From your kitchen cutting board to your fingers. In the case of lattes, it can help you create beautifully yellow hues.
5. Matcha
- This is a fine green tea powder with a sweetish taste. You don't have to use this powder just for colouring. Try different coffee recipes with matcha powder.

- In addition to green dyes, spirulina algae also contains blue dyes, which can be separated from the algae by special treatment. Your milk foam will therefore be coloured asmurf blue.

Adding a pinch of salt to your coffee helps to make it less bitter and acidic. Why is that, you ask? There's no science to it. Adding salt makes the coffee seem sweeter. Care must be taken in the choice of salt. Thebest choice is sea salt.
If only for its processing. You have to be careful with the amount so you don't over-salt the coffee. To clarify, theideal dose per 100ml of coffeeis 0.15g of salt.
