About Musara Cooperative

Almost all farms in Sumatra are small. The average size of farms is between 0.5 and 2.5 hectares. In 2018, Asman established a coffee growers' cooperative: Ribang Gayo Musara. Its goal is to offer competitive prices to help farmers reinvest in their farms and families. The cooperative currently has over 350 members who supply cherries to their processing plant in Pantan Musara.

The cooperative provides farmers with training and education in all areas from cultivation to processing. Members have doubled their production yields in just 5 seasons (2016 to 2020). Cherries are hand-picked on member farms. Once delivered to the cooperative's wet processing mill (newly completed 2020), the cherries go through a rigorous selection process. The cherries are then pulped and the grains are wet fermented for 12 hours. They are then soaked in clean water for 24 hours and dried on African beds and covered terraces.

Filter roasting

Is a light roast suitable for Aeropress, Chemex, Hario, French Press and other alternative methods where it is advantageous to highlight the terroir specificities of the coffee.

Modern espresso

Is a roast for lovers of lighter roast espresso with lively acidity. Cafés claiming to be third wave will serve such coffees.

We refer to classic espresso as noir.

This is a darker roast ideal for mocha pots, super machines, or people who prefer espresso with lower acidity.
