Coffee from Kiambu County

Ngemwa Estate in the Kiambu region of Kenya is situated at 1700 m above sea level and covers 28 hectares. The farm grows SL 28, Ruiru 11 and SL 34 coffee varieties, which are known for their hardiness and quality.

The coffee is hand-picked, fermented and sun-dried on raised beds until it reaches the ideal moisture content. Ngemwa is processed using the wet method.

Ngemwa Estate employs 40 people, 15 of whom live on the farm. Working with Coffee Management Services and Dormans Exporting Group, the farm focuses on quality and sustainability.

AA grade coffee

The difference between AA and AB grades of coffee in Kenya lies in the size of the beans. Class AA refers to larger beans (with a sieve size of 17 or 18), while Class AB includes smaller beans. Grade AA often fetches higher prices at auction, but bean size is not always a reliable indicator of the quality of flavour that AB grade coffee can have.

How will this cup of coffee taste?

Kenyan coffees are known for their bright acidity and complex flavour profile. They are mostly grown at high altitudes and processed using the wet method, which ensures a clean and fresh taste. This particular coffee from Ngemwa Estate will enchant you with fruity notes of gooseberry, perfectly balanced by the unusual taste of rosehips and the sweet aftertaste of honey.

Recommended for filter coffee. It is for this method of coffee preparation that the fine roasting profile was created. In addition to using it for classic drip coffee from a dripper or drip coffee machine, you can also enjoy coffee from a French Press, AeroPress or Chemex.
