Van Houten Cocoa 125 g

Van Houten's high quality cocoa powder is characterised by its delicate aroma and beautiful dark brown colour. The fat content is 20/22%. The cocoa is stored in a practical tin container and is of course also suitable for baking, preparing toppings or fillings.

Cocoa, which appeared in the form of cocoa pods as early as around 300 AD in Mayan drawings, was given the botanical name 'Theobroma Cacao L' (Food of the Gods) by the famous Swedish naturalist and physician Carl Linné in 1753.

The tradition of the Van Houten brand began in 1828, when a revolution in the production of cocoa, which until then had been the preserve of the upper classes, took place. The Dutch chemist Coenraad Johanes van Houten invented the hydraulic press, which for the first time separated the cocoa butter from the cocoa nib, which could then be ground into cocoa powder. This patent made cocoa cheaper to produce and led to the widespread diffusion of cocoa.

The ideal preparation of a cocoa drink is simple.

First, heat the milk. Pour off a small portion of the milk and beat the cocoa and sugar to a fine paste. Stir the slurry gently into the remaining hot milk. Let the drink come to the boil, stirring constantly (from the bottom to avoid burning the milk). Remove the finished cocoa from the heat and immediately pour into cups. Enjoy!
