What is a pressure gauge and what is it used for?
A pressure gauge is a device that measures the pressure in a coffee machine, usually the water or steam pressure during espresso extraction. It helps baristas and users monitor the correct pressure when brewing coffee, which is key to achieving a consistent taste. High or low pressure can adversely affect extraction, and thus the quality of the beverage.
How do I know which pressure gauge is compatible with my coffee machine?
On our e-shop you can easily filter the pressure gauges by compatibility with coffee machines. For the Nuova Simonelli brand, we offer gauges compatible with the Nuova Simonelli Musica model, for example. For Flair Espresso manual coffee machines we have gauges for models such as Flair 58, Flair Neo and others. Always make sure the gauge is compatible with your specific model.
What is the difference between the different gauges?
Gauges vary in size, measuring range and compatibility with different models of coffee makers. For example, some are designed for professional coffee machines, such as Nuova Simonelli models, while others are suitable for handheld machines, such as Flair Espresso. When choosing a pressure gauge, it is important to select one that fits the specifications of your coffee maker.
Why is it important to monitor the pressure in the coffee machine?
Proper pressure is crucial for optimal espresso extraction. If the pressure is too low, the coffee may be under-extracted and tasteless; if it is too high, the coffee will be bitter and over-burnt. By monitoring the pressure with a pressure gauge, you ensure that your machine is working within the optimal range and that the resulting cup of coffee is always tasty.
