Pedra Redonda coffee
Out of 14 siblings, three brothers - José Bernandes, Geraldo and Donizete - have dedicated their lives to coffee and started to run the Pedra Redonda coffee farm. The goal in their coffee business was to raise the level of quality of coffee.
The 108 hectare coffee plantation is harvested from May to August. José Bernandes Santana focused on growing traditional Brazilian coffee varieties: Catuaí.
The coffee heritage has been taken over by Beto, the son of the owner of the farm, José Bernandes. And he's following in his father's footsteps to better and tastier coffee. Beto and his team have also added photovoltaic panels to harness clean solar energy for farming, making their coffee farming even greener.
What makes Brazilian coffee from Matas de Minas so special?
The entire Minas Gerais region, under which Matas de Minas falls, is famous for its coffee production. The local conditions have great potential for growing high quality coffee.
The green hills with altitudes of over 1000 metres above sea level, fertile soil and mild climate are historically linked to coffee cultivation. The farms operate without pesticides but with organic and sustainable means that do not burden the local ecosystem.
Also key for Fazenda Pedro Redondo is the farm management system in place, with which they are able to correctly identify any shortcomings and problems. Which leads to adjustments in processes and even higher quality coffee grown.
